TLDR / Summary
If you get a warning in your report saying you need to uninstall/reinstall Truple, please do so for that specific device by July 15th, 2024. Failure to do so will result in monitoring no longer working.
Background
Truple uses authentication providers to help us offer security features, like logging you in and keeping all of the connections secure. As time has passed, Truple has switched through a couple of different authentication providers. We’ve now settled on one we’re quite happy with, and we’ve stuck with them for the past 5 years. Maintaining each of the old authentication systems takes engineering time and effort. Some of those old authentication providers are no longer offering updates. This creates problems on secure platforms like Android, which have policies set by Google that force code libraries to be up to date. We ended up in a pickle, where in order to update the code library for the authentication library we’ve been using for the past 5 years (and the one we want to stick with into the future), we have to make changes to how authentication is done in the Android app. That causes the authentication libraries for those old authentication providers to stop working.
Deadline – What you need to do before July 15th, 2024
If your report indicates you have a device that needs to uninstall/reinstall Truple, that means the Truple app was installed 5+ years ago (or you used a really old installer file to install it). To make sure monitoring continues to work in the future, please uninstall the Truple app then reinstall it by July 15th, 2024. This will set you up with the new authentication provider and ensure monitoring continues working into the future for you.
Reward
In an effort to make up for the inconvenience, we’ll apply a one-month credit if you’re affected by this and you perform the uninstall/reinstall before July 15th, 2024. Once you’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, please send an email to support@truple.io and we’ll credit your account for one month of Truple service. Please note that account credits can only be applied to subscriptions created through our website, and not through mobile app subscriptions.
Only ~100 devices are impacted by this, so the overall impact is minimal. However, we understand customers want things to simply work without much fuss, and this falls below our standard. So we hope this reward makes up for the hassle.
