Free Chrome Web Filter

Filter out porn from all Chromium based browsers

Posted by Cam on July 1, 2022

Truple is excited to announce the release of a free web filter for Google Chrome (and other chromium based browsers, like Microsoft Edge). This web filter can be used on desktop Chrome browsers on Windows, MacOS, and Linux and will filter out pornographic content within Chrome.

The filter is free of charge, and available to the public.

To install the filter, click here while using Google Chrome then click Add to Chrome.

Word of caution

We’ve covered previously that web filters are not bullet proof. This filter contains loopholes similar to those mentioned in the article. However, filters are great at protecting against accidental exposure, and at putting up a guard rail to help those in recovery.

How is this filter different from others?

Cleanbrowsing.org and cloudflare.com both offer amazing, free, DNS based filters. DNS based filters are great because they filter out content across the entire device. However, they’re not so great because they require a network connection that’s compatible with them in order for them to work. If you go on a public wifi connection, like at an airport, coffee shop, or hotel, the filter may stop working completely. Or if you’re required to connect to a VPN for work, the filter may conflict with the VPN and cause the internet to stop working. This is where a Chrome Extension based web filter is great. It doesn’t require any changes to your devices network connections.

Can I use this filter alongside other filters, like cleanbrowsing.org or cloudflare.com?

Yes! Because this web filter is a Chrome extension based filter, it can be used in tandem with DNS based filters like those offered by cleanbrowsing.org or cloudflare.net.

Privacy

The Truple Web Filter for Chrome is privacy friendly. Typical DNS based filters require sending your domain to the filtering service, opening up an opportunity for your information to get into the wrong hands. Truple Web Filter for Chrome does all of the filtering within the extension itself, and doesn’t send any information to anyone (including our own servers).

Can I use this filter with Microsoft Edge?

Yes, because Microsoft Edge is based on the same source code as Google Chrome, the extension will work across both browsers. You just need to allow installing extensions from third party stores. To do so, do the following:

  1. Open up an up to date version of MS Edge
  2. Type edge://extensions into the URL bar, and press enter
  3. Toggle the “Allow extensions from other stores” switch to the on position.
MS Edge allow extensions from other web stores
  4. Now you can install the web filter from the Chrome Web Store
