Truple Web Filter SMS based alerts removed

Due to regulatory changes, we’re no longer offering SMS based alerts for the Truple Web Filter app. We are still offering email based alerts. We encourage our customers who rely on text alerts to switch to email based alerts. For those customers who really need text based alerts, there is a workaround you can use described below.

Workaround to continue receiving text alerts

Almost every cell phone number has an email address associated with it, which if emailed, will send the message to the phone as a text message. You can see a list of all major email addresses based on your cell service provider at https://www.notepage.net/smtp.htm.

It’s quite simple to use. Pretend the phone number you wish to alert when the filter is locked/unlocked is 1(555)555-5555, and the owner of that phone number uses AT&T for their mobile cell plan. All you need to do is go to https://www.notepage.net/smtp.htm, and look up the AT&T’s phone number email, which is 10digit@txt.att.net. So in our example, the phone number to email would be 15555555555@txt.att.net. Add that email address as a contact in your phone, then select it when you go to lock your web filter and that phone will continue receiving text alerts whenever your phone is locked/unlocked.

Apology

We want to apologize for not proactively announcing this change. However, there is a very good reason why we can’t. We pride ourselves on maintaining your privacy as best as possible. As a result we do not require an email address or phone number when you use our web filter app. This is great, because it means we can’t sell data tied to you (we never would, but we like to behave accordingly). However, this also means we have no easy way to alert you of changes. We think giving this ability up is a fair tradeoff, given we’ve only had announcements to make in over 4 years of running the Truple Web Filter.
