If you’re still running the old Truple app on your Mac, it’s time to switch. The Mac app has been rebuilt from the ground up and now ships as two apps: ScreenKin for families, and Best Accountability for individuals.
The old Truple Mac app has been sunset, meaning it will no longer receive any updates. It will keep running for now, but it won’t get bug fixes, new features, or compatibility updates for future versions of macOS.
Your account, subscription, and reports don’t change. Both new apps sign in with your existing Truple login. Full instructions are in the MacOS update guide, and the short version is at the bottom of this post.
Already running ScreenKin or Best Accountability on your Mac? You’re done. Those apps update themselves automatically and there’s nothing for you to do.
Why rewrite it?
The old Mac app was showing its age. Apple has changed a lot about macOS since it was written – Apple silicon, new permission models, new screen recording APIs – and the old codebase was fighting all of it. Rather than keep patching, we rebuilt the Mac app on a foundation that actually fits modern macOS.
What you get out of it:
- Better stability. Far fewer crashes and far fewer cases of monitoring silently stopping.
- Real Apple silicon performance. If you’re on an M-series Mac, the new app runs natively instead of running through Rosetta.
- Automatic updates. The new apps update themselves. No more manually reinstalling to get a fix.
- Ongoing development. New features land in the new apps. The old one is frozen.
- A cleaner interface. Setup and day-to-day use are both a lot less fiddly.
Two apps instead of one
Truple has been evolving into two focused products, and the Mac rewrite is the next step in that transition for MacOS:
- ScreenKin – parental monitoring. Pick this one if you’re a parent keeping an eye on a kid’s Mac.
- Best Accountability – personal accountability. Pick this one if you’re monitoring your own Mac and sending reports to an accountability partner to help you overcome harmful online habits.
Same account, same subscription, same reports either way. You’re just picking the app built for how you’re actually using it.
Heads up: uninstalling triggers a tamper alert
This is the part worth reading twice.
Uninstalling the old Truple app will trigger a tamper alert and remove the device from your account. That’s expected – it’s the system working correctly – but your accountability partner or the account owner is going to get an alert saying the app was removed.
So before you uninstall, tell them what you’re doing. A quick “I’m updating my Mac app, you’ll see a tamper alert” saves an uncomfortable conversation later.
After you install the replacement, a new device will show up on your report. Your old reports and history stay right where they are.
How to switch
- On the Mac you’re updating, find the Truple icon in the notification bar near the clock in the top right hand corner of the screen.
- Click the icon, then select
Uninstall. - Confirm the uninstall.
- Grant the requested permissions so Truple can remove itself.
- Install your replacement app and follow its setup guide: ScreenKin or Best Accountability.
